The Smoky Lake County is located in Northeast Alberta, approximately 120 km from Edmonton. It encompasses the Town of Smoky Lake and the Villages of Waskatenau and Vilna as well as the hamlets of Warspite, Edwand, Bellis and Spedden.

The County is home to Métis Crossing, a premiere cultural interpretative centre on the banks of the North Saskatchewan a designated Heritage River, in the Historic Victoria District.
