OUR COMMUNITIES

Town of Athabasca

Located just over 90 minutes north of downtown Edmonton, the Town of Athabasca thrives on the strength of the region’s agriculture, forestry, and natural gas sectors. The Town is also an affordable residential option for many who commute to the oil sands.

Industry is attracted to the Town by affordable land values, transportation access, and a stable labour force. Opportunities exist in the areas of wood products manufacturing, oil and gas services, agricultural processing, resource extraction, recreation industry and industrial/commercial and residential development.

The Town is home to Athabasca University – Canada’s leading online university with a $30 million injection to the local economy annually.

A truly must see when in Athabasca are the Muskeg Creek Trails situated within the Town limits. Covering an area of 17.5 square kilometers, it is easy to get away from the sights and sounds of the nearby urban area. The trails also connect to our local schools, Athabasca University, and the Rotary Trail system that stretches across town. The trails are open year-round to all non-motorized vehicles with various recreation and outdoor opportunities.
