Lamont County is located in southwest of the Alberta HUB region, 62 km northeast of Edmonton.
Lamont County’s economic strength is based on its diversification in three major sectors: Agriculture, Industrial Development and Tourism. The County is actively encouraging increased activity in the Industrial Development area. Existing industrial strengths include Cenovus, Inter Pipeline Fund and Graymont, a facility that produces high calcium and dolomitic lime, which started operations in 2015. Alberta Midland Rail Terminal is currently under construction and in the near future will provide an open location for any shipper to transfer goods to/from railcars, lay-down storage, and railcar staging and storage.
Other industries in the County include Sil Industrial Minerals, Western Asphalt, Altalink, NBI Feedyards, Pioneer Grain, Viterra and many other businesses related to the agricultural service and supply industry. The County is also home to extensive gas and oil well activity. In 2016 two major pipelines went through Lamont County. The ATCO Inland Loop is a natural gas transmission line approximately 18.3kms in length, and the Enbridge/Bannister line, a 24” crude oil and liquids pipeline will transport diluent through the county for 25.21 kms.
